Seventeen people have died while 48 others have sustained injuries after the bus they were in overturned.
The accident happened on Tuesday night along Great East Road between Luangwa Market and Luangwa Bridge after the driver of the Scania bus belonging to Kapena Transport lost control.
The bus was heading to the Eastern Province when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, making the bus to overturn.
Among the dead are three juveniles, six male adults and eight female adults.
The injured who include the driver are admitted to Mpashya and Katondwe Mission Hospitals.
And the Road transport and safety agency RTSA Head of Public Relations Fred has disclosed that Kapena Bus Services has on several occasions been operating outside the provisions of statutory instrument number 76 that restricts the movement of public service vehicles at night.
RTSA Mubanga says the agency will soon take appropriate action concerning the operator.
