South Africa’s Democratic Alliance-DA Leader, Mmusi Maimane says the release of UPND President Hakainde Hichilema is a first step towards restoring democracy in Zambia.
Mr Maimane says from the beginning, his party knew that the charges of treason against Mr. Hichilema were trumped up.
He says the violent nature of Mr Hichilema’s arrest and inhumane treatment confirms political motives behind the charges.
Mr Maimane has since called on both continental, regional bodies and other stakeholders to join the fight for democratic change on the continent.
