The State has finally succumbed to the court directive to transfer UPND President Hakainde Hichilema back to Lusaka for the case in which he has sued National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister, Reverend Godfridah Sumaili for contempt of Court.
The incarcerated opposition leader arrived at the Lusaka Magistrate Court Complex amid heavy police presence around 09:30 hours and was quickly ushered into the holding cell as his matter comes up at 12:00.
On Monday, June 19, 2017, Magistrate Ireen Wishimanga threatened to cite the Prison Authorities and the police for contempt of Court if they fail to bring Mr Hichilema and other complainants to court today Wednesday June 21, 2017.
And the court has ordered that Hichilema should be remanded at Lusaka central prison as per court order of June 15.
The UPND President wants the Court to cite Reverend Sumaili for contempt of court over her remarks attributed to her that Mr Hichilema pushed President Edgar Lungu to the wall by not recognising his presidency.
Meanwhile, Hichilema’s lawyers have urged the court to ignore the purported takeover of the case by the director of pubic prosecution as it is illegal, unconstitutional and against public interest.
