Lusaka Man in Court for Killing Son

A 27-year-old man of Lusaka’s John Howard Township has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate Court for allegedly murdering his two-year, seven months old son whom he buried within the school premises he used to work as a caretaker.
George Phiri appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate David Simusamba for mention as the state awaits instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to commit him to the High Court for trial.
Phiri is alleged to have on June 26, 2017 given his son doom and secretly buried him at DASO School.
The tragic incident was discovered after the baby’s whereabouts became unknown as the accused who got him from the mother kept on giving different versions as to where he had taken the baby.
He admitted to the police of having murdered the baby during interrogations.
The baby’s body was exhumed and a postmortem was conducted to establish
the cause of death.
The case comes up on September 12, 2017 for another mention while awaiting instructions from the DPP to commit Phiri to the High court for trial.
