Senegal and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane is the CAF African player of the year 2019.
He was crowned winner at the 28th edition of the CAF Annual Football awards that took place at the Citadel Azure in the Egyptian City of Hughada, Tuesday night.
The Liverpool forward beat two-time winner Mohamed Salah and 2016 Winner Riyad Mahrez to win African player award making him the 18th player to win it since 1992.
Mane picked up 477 votes while Mohamed Salah polled in 325 votes and Algeria’s Mahrez polled 267 votes.
Sadio Mane had a remarkable 2019 which saw him score 32 goals in 53 appearances for Liverpool who won the Champions league, Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The 27 -year-old was also named in the Professional Footballers Association –PFA- Team of the year for the second time in a roll. He also shared the premier league golden boot with Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng.
